Duke Dollars
So, tomorrow is the $1500 deposit deadline to secure my Fuqua scholarship money. And I'm going to submit the cash.
No, I haven't decided to go to Fuqua, but I haven't decided to go to Anderson either, so I figured that I might as well make sure I can still go to Duke if I choose to do so. The way I thought about it was like this. At this point, I have 4 potential outcomes:
1. Deposit $1500 to Fuqua, choose Duke, win-win situation.
2. Deposit $1500 to Fuqua, choose UCLA, lose $1500.
3. Don't deposit $1500 to Fuqua, choose UCLA, save $1500.
4. Don't deposit $1500 to Fuqua, choose Duke, lose big scholarship.
Basically, if I deposit the $1500, I can either be in a win-win situation or lose $1500. If I don't deposit the $1500, I can either save $1500 or lose a lot more than $1500. If you look at the expected value of each situation, it makes way more sense to deposit the $1500 as I am not 95% sure I want to go to UCLA. In the long run, $1500 is worth the comfort of keeping both options wide open.
Hopefully, attending A-Days II in a couple of weeks will allow me to decide which place is right for me. I really wish I had gone to A-Days I back in the beginning of March, but, alas, I was in Hawaii, and it was totally worth it.

Think of it this way: for $1500, you get to guarantee that you go to your top choice. A bargain.
Hopefully I'll see you at Fuqua this fall!

Email Duke and ask for one more week to make a decision - they should be open to this.
